Happy Birthday!

This month's birthday girl is Kristy Bradshaw.

Happy birthday! We're bringing you a Petite Sweets cupcake to celebrate. What's your favorite flavor?
Funfetti!

You're a co-founder of Ballet Barre, the young professionals group that supports the Houston Ballet. What inspired you to start it?
Ballet is my first love. I trained seriously my entire childhood, and that discipline and focus has shaped who I am and how I approach life. And though I’m no longer dancing (outside the occasional adult class!), I still get my fill from the time I spend at Houston Ballet as a super fan and board trustee.

You're a portfolio manager for an investment management company. What do you love about your job
It’s actually a lot like ballet in that it requires a lot of discipline, and there’s really no way of truly mastering my job – I have the opportunity to learn and improve every day. The financial markets are really humbling, and I love that daily challenge.

How do you unwind?
I LOVE to cook. I’m Cuban so I love cooking traditional Cuban meals – ropa vieja (slow cooked beef with vegetables in a tomato based sauce) or arroz con pollo (chicken and rice) are my favorites.

Best book you've read lately?
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah – I could not put it down. It’s a story of two women in France during the Germany’s occupation of WWII. It’s so haunting.

You recently chaired the Houston Chronicle's Best Dressed luncheon. What's the one wardrobe piece you can't live without?
First and foremost, my engagement ring. I couldn’t be luckier to marry a man who is my true partner in life, and I still get giddy when I see my ring and think of him. As far as clothes/shoes goes, Rag & Bone jeans and Lanvin flats are my standard weekend uniform.

Where do you always take your visitors?
Underbelly and Hermann Park – both showcase the diversity of our great city. And no trip is complete without a visit to the Menil or a Houston Ballet performance.

What helps you relax?
Working out – I have a stressful job so I find I’m happiest when I am exercising consistently. A Sunday afternoon at Trellis doesn’t hurt either….

What’s the best deal in town?
$1 oysters during State of Grace’s happy hour and Tony’s new $5 wine happy hours.

How many candles are you blowing out?
37.

What’s on your birthday gift wish list?
Health and happiness… and some French goodies when my husband and I go to Paris in June.

Tell us something random.
I chose at the last minute to go to college instead of pursue a ballet career. Most days I think I made the right choice for me, but there are still times when I watch a performance and wish I had gone all-in.
