Indulge in divine delights from the local baking duo behind Melao.

You've started your morning with their apple tarts at the Catahoula and noshed their empanadas over pints at Barrel Proof. 

Meet the chefs behind your early bird and night owl sustenance, Danny Alas and Justin Rodriguez of Melao (it translates to overly sweet honey). The two bakers handmake treats in their Gentilly kitchen that NOLA haunts can't get enough of - their bites are also found at coffee shops The Orange Couch and Arrow Cafe. Incorporating local ingredients when possible, the weekly roster - inspired by their combined Dominican and Venezuelan roots - ranges from savory to sweet with yucca fritas, sweet plantains and swoon-worthy flan.
