Don't Worry Be Hoppy

A bar where you can get a gourmet meal and groceries, too.

Kinda Tropical
3501 E. 7th St.
Based on the way you deliver back-handed compliments, your co-workers wouldn't describe you as super sweet. Just sorta nice.
This place isn't totally the island life, but it's Kinda Tropical. The new bodega-meets-bar-meets-restaurant on the Eastside is so nondescript, if you blink you'll miss the former gas station nestled in a row of warehouses. Greeting you is a mural with a watchful palm tree and the words Otro Lado ("other side") and a festive window adorned with foreign currency, a snake in a sombrero and Eastern good luck charms. Step inside to shop fresh produce, gourmet sundries and obscure groceries like Japanese crackers, or order from the beachy menu (jerk chicken, fried plantains, sweet potatoes with miso butter) to enjoy outside with a local beer under string lights.
Where you won't get sloppy drunk, only a little tipsy.
