Fluffy robes, Enya and hot tea are all part of your fantasy spa manicure experience. In reality, you gnaw off your damaged cuticles trying to concentrate on a year-old copy of Cosmo over your nail tech’s noisy cell phone convo.
Here, two of our faves for a fantastic, quiet mani-pedi experience on the cheap.
Nails by Mary
In a converted bungalow in Upper Kirby, we’re positively wowed by Mary’s ability to remember customers’ names after just one visit. The place is spotless, evidenced by basic chairs with separate feet basins, and they have tons of Essie. Insider tip: Cash or check only.

Montrose Nails
Just in time for flaky feet and winterized toenails, we’re hard-pressed to find a better budget pedicure inside the Loop. The consistent shop is packed with regulars – they’re gonna hate that we spilled the beans – and eyebrow waxing is quick and just $8.
